The Ferber Method
Ok This is my second post for today...I wanted to explain what ferberizing is. THAT is MY word but the actual name of it is "The Ferber Method" AND for those of you who want to see Nicks bed...I am going to take some pics...I will add them here soon.
What exactly is the Ferber method?
In a nutshell, Ferber says you can teach your baby to soothe himself to sleep when he's physically and emotionally ready, usually sometime between 4 and 6 months of age. He recommends following a warm, loving bedtime routine and then putting your baby in bed awake and leaving him (even if he cries) for gradually longer periods of time. Putting a child to bed awake, says Ferber, is crucial to successfully teaching him to go to sleep on his own.
Parents are instructed to pat and comfort their baby after each predetermined period of time, but not to pick up or feed their baby. This routine is called "progressive waiting." The suggested waiting time, which Ferber charts in his book, is based on how comfortable you are with the technique, how many days you've been using it, and how many times you've already checked on your child that night.
After a few days to a week of gradually increasing the waiting time, the theory goes, most babies learn to fall asleep on their own, having discovered that crying earns nothing more than a brief check from you.
Now this says it could take longer but it took us TWO days (the big thing is DON'T give in) and the third night he went in his crib and did not say a word...just went to sleep! We were amazed and now he's such a happy baby at bedtime...but we had a routine with him...and this is very important so your baby doesn't feel scared at bed time. We always gave him some water/brushed his teeth/and last read him a story (in his room) and tucked him in with kisses.
ONE MORE THING...when I was pregnant I had a fan on me EVERY SINGLE day of my pregnancy...we used a fan before I was pregnant too...anyway, once Nick was born he was a little fussy at bedtime...we didn't use the fan anymore because I was scared he would be cold and he stayed in our room his first month...I decided to turn on the fan to see if it would help and man did it ever! Kids LOVE white noise. Now we use a fan EVERY night in his room and have always used a fan just for the noise. If your child does not sleep well or wakes up with every noise, try this! It really works!!! Just turn the fan, so it's not blowing right on him/her.

Ok this morning was another...I could not sleep mornings...although I did fall back asleep for ummm A SECOND when my phone woke me up. It was my hubby wanting an account number..I swear he comes up with something every morning just to be sure I can't sleep lol. Then the phone woke up Nick but the weird thing was he actually got out of his big boy bed by himself! lol Since we set up his big boy bed (weeks ago now) he has not gotten out of it on his own..he always called to me as if he were still in his crib. And he would not get out of it no matter how long we waited...he would just sit in there saying "mama, help me" or "mama, I'm scared" But today was another milestone that I will add to his book :) I wonder if he will continue to do it or if it was a one time thing. He sure was proud of himself :) It was so cute. It's just been wonderful with him at bedtime too. I ferberized him at 6 months old and I tell you what...it was the best thing I ever did. It only took two days...seriously! Now he goes to bed NO problem's EVER. Even at nap time...I tell him It's nap time and put him in his bed and he goes to sleep...sometimes he talks for a while first but eventually he falls asleep. How many two year olds do that?? I'm just so proud of him. AND it's great for me too :) I can get peace and quiet time after everyone is asleep knowing that there will be no problems coming from Nick. Well, off to the cleaning...gotta keep caught up here! OH by the way...My daughter is out again lol...I have to tell ya though I don't miss the arguing between her and her brother at all! She is doing better though with her schooling (FINDING WOOD) so hopefully she keeps it up. By the way were trying the potty training thing again this week :)

First I want to say...we NEVER know when OR if were going to get cancer so I like to donate or whatever I can do to help find a cure. I don't have any family members who are going through it right now, but I do have a best friend who isgoing through it. She just finished cemo/radiation treatments a few months back. So for those of you out there who can afford a donation or (if your in the Madison WI area) are able to walk for a cure PLEASE do so.

Strangest thing on your bathroom counter: a racecar mat for the bath...not really strange for being in the bathroom but I just cleaned lol so not that many stray things laying around now.
Plans for the weekend: Taking Stefan to Prom an hour and 1/2 away He's going to his girlfriends Prom with her.
Best thing you can say about the person you snagged this from: Don't know her personally but met her through journaling and in fact her journal was one of the first ones I actually found and read and enjoyed. She is very funny and entertaining and at times has some useful information in her journal :) There are only a handful of journals that I am hooked on and hers is one of them, even though I don't comment a lot I do enjoy reading. AND I have to say...when Jland is quiet and people do not update, Heather is always there AND keeps her journal updated ALWAYS! I like that.
Money/ranting bla bla
TAXES DUE TODAY BY MIDNIGHT FOLKS!! ARE YOURS DONE?
Today started off wonderful...I was able to go back to sleep and actually sleep. Nick didn't wake up till after 9. HOWEVER, once I fell asleep after the guys left for work/school I got phone call after phone call. One was from Jostens (returning my call from yesterday) ...we ordered a class ring for Stefan and never received it in the mail. So I called them and they tried to charge me 65 bucks for a "lost" ring. I told them NO, you don't understand...we never even SEEN the ring...it NEVER made it to our house...I told them this the FOUR times I was transfered! Then the lady says "OH, well let me transfer you to the right place for that situation! GRRRR.... Anyway, long story short, she was very nice and got me a new ring ordered and they will send it in two weeks after it's made again!. NO CHARGE! My son has been anxious to see it. SO have I! lol You pay 400 bucks for a ring and your hoping things go right ya know! Gosh I can't tell you what we have spent of school stuff this year so far starting off with beginning school fees then there are Class rings, graduation stuff, sports fees, lunches, sports uniforms, Sports pictures, reg school photos, year books, donations to our sports programs, field trip fees, fees for certain classes (if they need to buy something special for that particular class), driving class fees, school dances (renting tuxs buying prom dress)...I know there is more but can't think of them off hand lol...BOY I can sure see why they say it cost a total of $269,520 to raise ONE child from age birth through age 17! That's about right! I think 200,000 of that is to the schools itself! lol That total was taken in 2004 for family's who make 70,000 a year. SO maybe it's more today in 2007! Man what happens to the family's who make under that, or worse yet...who are forced to live on welfare!? I feel bad for some of the children out there who are not able to get a class ring or year books...things that make the memories for your child. I know my family was not able to get those things for me, and I always told my husband that I AM getting the clothes/school memories for our children even though we have lost money now with me not working...I want my children to have those things and be able to say ya I do have great memories from high school I will dowithout other things so my children can have those things. I did babysit and was able to help my parents pay for my class ring and year books (I only got two) myself. But you know...I still find myself looking in those year books and I have some of the best memories in high school :) AND my kids love looking in MY year books and making fun of the hair styles! lol Ya the WINGS! And the feather look! My daughter just cracks up. I have to say...if you get only one thing for you child in high school...invest in the year book! Your children can look back on them forever and their children and even their children...AND you have it all personalized with signatures too. About that! MAN O MAN have the signatures changed! In my year book there are things like have a good summer, can't wait until our senior year, stuff like that...now a days if you look at your kids year books we have things like have a Kick A** summer, Lets Hook up! boy how times have changed huh! Ok I think I'm done talking now. Below are some photos I wanted to share of my son's in the bathtub...Yes I said SON'S! He's going to make such a wonderful daddy some day! He is just awsome with his brother. One of my sons will kill me for this one! lol Gosh I hope none of his friends are reading! ;) After the pics look below for ONE MORE RANT!

Now a picture of my OTHER baby...the one that kind of got the back burner after Nick was born :( He's ok with it now though. I try to include him in lots of things that we do.
OK rant time...now, don't get me wrong...I LOVE living out in the country but I'm still not used to the HUGE bloody ticks that fall off your dogs!!! ALL OVER YOUR HOUSE! YUK YUK YUK...with the frontline the ticks get on your dogs STILL, die, and fall off in your house! And there are lots of ticks out here let me tell ya! I'm getting the dogs shaved next week sometime so it's easier to spot the darn things. My dogs both have such thick long fur and sometimes you don't' even catch the darn things after brushing them! OH an the brushing will be so much easier if they have SHORT hair! Ok done

About the news this morning
My thoughts and prayers go out to the parents and the wounded of those at Virginia Tech. Over 20 dead and many wounded from one loan shooter who they don't know is dead or alive yet. I can't believe that this sort of thing can happen...and to know your children are not safe in any college or even high school for that matter. Just so sad.
And another thing...Please check Angie's journal by following the link below and help this lovely women Kim who is fighting cancer, receive something wonderful from us here at Jland. This is a wonderful Idea and I know I have used this idea for weight loss purposes with my friends also and its something you really treasure that doesn't cost and arm and a leg.

You will most likely see a lot of this link in my journal, I think this journal is just simply awesome. I know some people have had problems with it but that is their own problem...if they can't trust that the things are getting to these people and/or these people are taking advantage just don't read or don't donate..it's simple. I happen to trust Angie and trust that she has good judgment and of course not everyone is perfect or trustworthy but I find it hard to believe that someone would waste their time to send the email to Angie to start, with all the explanation of what they need, and it's not like there is a HUGE form of donating going on here either. It's just a little something to let people know that there are still people out there who care. So Angie, I salute you in all the good you have been doing here :)
On with the journal...this morning was an early morning. I didn't get to bed until after 1am and I just could not sleep this morning so I was up by 6:30 am...I have no idea why but usually I"m able to go back to sleep after I go downstairs to see if Stefan is awake but this morning I couldn't. I did some dishes, put some laundry away, and just stood out on the balcony and listened to the birds. It's finally warm enough to enjoy my balcony and still cool enough to keep the bugs away.
It's after noon right now and I'm still not tired and usually I want a nap by now lol...NOPE not taking any pills either!!! Maybe all the energy is coming from the fruit I have been eating lol. Ok, going to take some pictures of Nick playing out on the balcony. Will post them in a bit so come back and check...AND if you didn't see the pics from yesterdays journal go check them out.

Some things you may NOT want to hear and Pics too :)
ALMOST FORGOT THE PICS! THEY ARE BELOW...OH and I was wondering...this question is to those who have people on alerts...I correct some things as the day goes on, in my entry...does that mean that every time I click on SAVE that you get another alert??? If so I'm SORRY!! I have clicked save on this entry about 500 times now lol. And now another with adding the pics.

Ok YESTERDAY...well yesterday was a very yucky day filled with laundry. Hubby and I went to do laundry (which we hate doing at the laundry mat, can't wait till our sewer is fixed!!!) The time before we had someone strung out on one of the seats there. He had no laundry there at all but just sitting there with his head down SLEEPING! Whatever..I got tired of looking at the guy actually. He wasn't more then 25 or so and I felt really weird doing my laundry around him with Nick being there too. Nick was staring at him wondering what the heck he was doing. THEN yesterday when we went there, there was a really large women in there, NOW don't get me wrong...I'm a big girl and I love big people cuz they are always nice...BUT this lady was very smelly! I mean very smelly. So smelly that I could NOT eat my food after we got back from getting taco bell ( I guess I should thank her). OK, I'm big but I would never allow myself to smell that bad. She has to know she smells because the entire laundry mat stunk to ummm...*cough* crotch *cough* and i'm not talking good crotch (if there is such a thing lol), I'm talking bad crotch. I feel mean saying that really and I hope she's not reading my journal but seriously...it's not that hard to take a shower every day OR even every other day. That was just plain ol gross and unacceptable. She wasn't that large where she wasn't able to take a shower either...that I could understand.
OK enough aboutthat...next on our list was to go to best buy for a hard drive for our computer (my hubby's is getting the MYTH tv ready for play) and when we got into the story...well first we dropped hubby off and then we got sick of waiting so Nick and I went in to look for him. Nick was cart free (BIG MISTAKE) and he took off running...and let me tell you, when you say "ok Nick, I'm leaving you here and were leaving...bye" You moms know what I"m talking about! Well, that does not work with Mr.Nicholas because HE DON"T CARE! So here I am trying to RUN to catch up to him but let me tell you this, he's going to be a track star like his brother! lol I'm sure that funniest home videos would have been all over this one!
Now it's home time...this was the best time of the day...not the putting aways the laundry but just being with hubby, only one child at home who is now sleeping. Ya OH and fresh sheets too! Gotta love the freshly washed sheets!
Diet was "ok" but not the best I could have done.

THIS IS WHAT THE SEWER GUYS DID TO OUR YARD TO FIX OUR PUMP...WHICH STILL IS NOT FIXED AS OF YET. TELL ME, WHY DIG UP SOMEONES YARD BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY FIX THE PUMP???????

Ok YESTERDAY...well yesterday was a very yucky day filled with laundry. Hubby and I went to do laundry (which we hate doing at the laundry mat, can't wait till our sewer is fixed!!!) The time before we had someone strung out on one of the seats there. He had no laundry there at all but just sitting there with his head down SLEEPING! Whatever..I got tired of looking at the guy actually. He wasn't more then 25 or so and I felt really weird doing my laundry around him with Nick being there too. Nick was staring at him wondering what the heck he was doing. THEN yesterday when we went there, there was a really large women in there, NOW don't get me wrong...I'm a big girl and I love big people cuz they are always nice...BUT this lady was very smelly! I mean very smelly. So smelly that I could NOT eat my food after we got back from getting taco bell ( I guess I should thank her). OK, I'm big but I would never allow myself to smell that bad. She has to know she smells because the entire laundry mat stunk to ummm...*cough* crotch *cough* and i'm not talking good crotch (if there is such a thing lol), I'm talking bad crotch. I feel mean saying that really and I hope she's not reading my journal but seriously...it's not that hard to take a shower every day OR even every other day. That was just plain ol gross and unacceptable. She wasn't that large where she wasn't able to take a shower either...that I could understand.
OK enough aboutthat...next on our list was to go to best buy for a hard drive for our computer (my hubby's is getting the MYTH tv ready for play) and when we got into the story...well first we dropped hubby off and then we got sick of waiting so Nick and I went in to look for him. Nick was cart free (BIG MISTAKE) and he took off running...and let me tell you, when you say "ok Nick, I'm leaving you here and were leaving...bye" You moms know what I"m talking about! Well, that does not work with Mr.Nicholas because HE DON"T CARE! So here I am trying to RUN to catch up to him but let me tell you this, he's going to be a track star like his brother! lol I'm sure that funniest home videos would have been all over this one!
Now it's home time...this was the best time of the day...not the putting aways the laundry but just being with hubby, only one child at home who is now sleeping. Ya OH and fresh sheets too! Gotta love the freshly washed sheets!
Diet was "ok" but not the best I could have done.
